A multiverse NPC (non-player character) is an in-game character that is integrated with at least two different games within a blockchain gaming multiverse. These NPCs extend the idea of interoperability by existing and functioning across multiple gaming environments, rather than being tied to a single title.
Types of Multiverse NPCs
Multiverse NPCs can fall into two categories, depending on ownership:
Player-Owned NPCs
These are NPCs directly owned by players. They are stored in the player’s blockchain wallet and can travel across supported games. Examples include pets, mounts, or sidekicks that follow and assist the player wherever multiverse integration is available.
Autonomous NPCs
This is a more experimental and innovative type of NPC. Autonomous NPCs own themselves by holding the keys to their own blockchain wallet and the ownership token that defines them. Because of this, they can act independently by:
-
Earning blockchain assets through in-game actions or interactions.
-
Spending assets to hire other players or NPCs.
-
Trading items or currencies with other participants in the multiverse.
-
Upgrading themselves using the assets they acquire.
Autonomous NPCs push the boundaries of what NPCs can be, functioning more like independent agents within the multiverse economy.
